Flight of
the Bulls
May 7th 2005
The 34th Annual Bob Mckibben memorial Flight of the Bulls was a success with 15
El Toro's participating. The Flight of the Bulls El Toro race is held every
year, "the-day-before-Mother's-day" rain or shine. This is the second in the 3
series, El Toro long distance marathon races. The Redwood City Corkscrew will
be the third race and will determine the winner of this El Toro Series. A huge
thank you goes to Admiral John Frazier of the Fremont Sailing Club for provided
our safety boat for the event. Greg Morrill and his bride Mary who are also
with the Fremont Sailing Club hosted the event. The day began with a threat of
dark clouds and apparent impending storm. A reverse wind from the south began
the race in light and fluctuation puffs of air. The wind filled in from the
West and the storm front held off to have warm sunny skies. Gordie Nash nailed
the start but he was soon passed by Fred Paxton, who never looked back to win
the event in a little over 3 hours for his second consecutive win in this race.
Gordie Nash held on to finish 2nd with Art Lange finishing 3rd. Vicky Gilmore
finished 1st woman and Patrick Tara finished first junior. Trophies for every
one, Tee shirts, El Toro Pale Ale, and a BBQ finished the afternoon.
